Open house for proposed East-West Arterial Tuesday
The Greene County Highway Department will host an open house for the public to view proposed alternate alignments for the future East-West Arterial Tuesday, Nov. 10, 4-6 p.m. at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4600 S. Chrisman Ave., Springfield.
Greene County is currently establishing the alignment and for the proposed roadway between Farm Road 169 (Kissick Avenue) and U.S. 160 (South Campbell Avenue,) south of Springfield. The East-West Arterial will eventually link U.S. 65 to Campbell and ultimately, the future Kansas Expressway extension.
Greene County Highway Administrator Dan Smith said no construction timeline for the East-West Arterial has yet been determined, but his department wants to keep property owners in the area updated on designs.
“We’re at a point in the design where we have some options we need the public to review,” said Smith. “We’ll evaluate the public’s comments to help us select alternatives for the road’s alignment.”
Tuesday’s open house will provide opportunities for one-on-one discussions with Highway Department engineers. Questions and comments from the public may also be submitted to the Highway Department by mail, phone or e-mail.
